"None of us should be anything other than vigilant and that vigilance is the price of securing our freedom. There is no room for complacency. We are probably in the most sustained period of severe threat since the end of the Second World War."We may have to modify some of our freedoms". Which is Blairspeak for: 'Bit, by bit, by bit, Big Brother is going to take away all the freedoms you ever thought you had - but didn't really.'
While I am confident that the security services and police will deliver 100 per cent effort and 100 per cent dedication, they cannot guarantee 100 per cent success. Our security services and the apparatus of the state, while they are an absolutely essential pre-requisite for defeating terrorism, cannot be sufficient on their own. Our common security in this country can only be assured by a common effort from all sections of society…
WE MAY HAVE TO MODIFY SOME OF OUR FREEDOMS IN THE SHORT-TERM in order to prevent their misuse and abuse by those who oppose our fundamental values and would destroy our freedoms and values in the long-term…
It is up to each and all of us to ask the questions: what price our security? What price our freedoms? At what cost can we preserve our freedoms? What values are at stake and what is the cost of making the wrong choices in the short term?"
Remember the war on terror? Remember what it was for? Tony Blair once said that we we're living in 'a world where freedom itself is under attack.' He also said that terrorists 'hate our freedoms.' He also said that 'all nations that are free value freedom, will defend it absolutely, but have no wish to trample on the freedom of others.'
He also said, quite rightly, that 'we love freedom... the spread of freedom is the best security for the free'... and, quoting Abraham Lincoln, 'those that deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.'
He has also said:
"We are fighting for the inalienable right of humankind, black or white, Christian or not, left, right or a million different, to be free."And:
"Being American means being free. That's why they're proud."Maybe that why he and his Home Secretary don't want us to think we're free any more. Perhaps they want to remove the last vestige of pride from the British people before the bad guys come round and finally yank out the plug.
Tony Blair said all of the above in just one speech to a joint meeting of the US Congress on 17 July 2003.
When Adolf Hitler brought in the 'Enabling Act' he said, amongst other things:
"The government will make use of these powers only insofar as they are essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures... The number of cases in which an internal necessity exists for having recourse to such a law is in itself a limited one."Which is almost exactly what John Reid appeared to be saying.
As regards the airport 'terror alert' which Reid had sprung upon us just before his speech, well, pretty convenient for our John, don't you think? He will have known about it in advance, of course, and must have figured that it would enhance the chances of getting a quick Thought Police bill through the House.
The Muslim threat is real, I'm not saying Abdul and Mohammed aren't plotting to blow us up, but do be aware that the threat from the John Reids and the Tony Blairs and those who saw to it that such creatures got to the top of the s***heap in the first place, is at least as great, if not greater than that posed by the Muslims in our midst.
And, if you think that's a bit much, well, who let Abdul and co. into this country in the first place? Who wants another million or three of the LEGAL variety to come 'look after us in our old age' and 'do the jobs we don't want to do any more?'
And then, if you ever thought it would be fun to shove a wasp up the bum of those already here, who went to war in Afganistan with best buddy Bush? Who went to war against Iraq at the behest of the US Neocons? Who was smashing Iraq to bits alongside the Yanks from the time the first Gulf war ended right up until the time the second one began?
Who let enormous great bombs be shipped from the US to Israel through British airports AFTER the Israelis crossed into The Lebanon?
Oh, it's a big, big war were all involved in here, folks.
It really is.
Reid is a former member of the Communist Party and a 'recovering alcoholic.'
His wife, Carine Adler, produces and directs 'exotic' films. At face value, husband and his wife would seem to have little in common. She is an upper-crust Jewess of French origin who was born and brought up in Brazil, he is a Roman Catholic whose mam and dad were postman and cleaner respectively.
He was once a member of Labour Friends of Israel, I suppose that must have counted for something.
The happy couple met in 1999, the same year Tony Blair first promoted Reid into the Cabinet.
