Dappy, whose cousin is X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos, paid tribute to the thug Learco Chindamo in his latest music video… Yesterday following a storm of protest, the foul-mouthed rapper, whose real name is Costadinos Contostavlos, claimed he did not realise Chindamo was a killer and apologised to Mr Lawrence’s family.

The Italian-born thug was 15 when he stabbed Philip Lawrence as he intervened in a fight outside his school, St George’s in Maida Vale, in 1995. Chindamo, who came to Britain at six, was jailed indefinitely for Mr Lawrence’s murder in 1996 and ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years. Although he was acquitted of robbery, he remains in prison serving the rest of his original life term because he breached conditions of his licence – including associating with former gang members and drinking on the streets.
