Eroding standards

In the 19 December 2013 edition of The Daily Mail, Sir David Jason commented thus on pre-watershed television:
“If you are watching at half past five/ six o’clock, they will show you a trailer of EastEnders. It doesn’t have to be swearing and it doesn’t have to have sexual content, so they don’t show that, but what they do show is violence in another way, which is aggression, which is people being very unkind and shouting at each other, and being rude to each other…
The only thing you’re not doing is swearing and jumping in bed, but you can show them shouting and getting hold of people, well, if that’s not the wrong time, I don’t know what is. So that’s how they get round it, and it’s cheating. The watershed is a bit of a misnomer."
Criticising the foul language used by comedians and decadent behaviour in general, Sir David added:
"It slowly drip feeds, erodes, standards of politeness, manners and morality. It just drips and it takes us further and further down and instead of inspiring us to look up, we are all looking down.
Look at Miley Cyrus. She epitomises what we have allowed. In other words, she does it, or has done it to break the mould. We have given her the oxygen of publicity and encouraged it, so young girls particularly will think it is the right way to attract men, if you like. We’ve lost our standards.”
We didn’t lose our standards, David. They were stolen from us by those who know so much better than we do. You know, the global elite; their bought politicians; the PC Crowd; the Left; the liberal intelligentsia; the social engineers; the do-gooders; Hollywood; the recording industry; Channels 4 and 5; the History Channel; the BBC; the Banksters; Big Business; Thatcherism; New Labour; the Lib Dems and the Cameronian Tories.

Them. The usual suspects. The bad guys. That’s who stole our standards.

That’s who stole our world.
