Celebrate the diversity

On 3 September 2008, Gordon Brown, Prime Minister of the UK, said this:

“The Hadith of the prophet Mohammed emphasises the duty of care we owe to one another. So, during this special month let us all celebrate the diversity that contributes to Britain’s strength. 

Muslims make a huge contribution to Britain’s success, to our prosperity, our society, our culture and, of course, Ramadan is an opportune time to consider not only the contribution of Islam, not just to Britain, but to the world… 

I look forward to continuing the positive engagement with British Muslim communities across the UK.”

If ever a cynical politician dreamt up a more deceitfully venomous slogan than this, I cannot for the life of me think of it.
