Peter Oborne

On 12 December 2009, renowned political journalist, Peter Oborne, told it like it is in The Daily Mail, when he said:

"The key battle in British politics is between a pampered, cosy and corrupt political class which has lost all connection with the real world and the mass of ordinary people betrayed by politicians of all parties."

In the 22 May 2009 edition of The Mail, Oborne had said something similar:

“THE POLITICAL CLASS FINDS ITSELF LITERALLY UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE VALUES THAT APPEAR ADMIRABLE TO MOST PEOPLE, SUCH AS HONESTY, PATRIOTISM AND RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCE...

British democracy now faces an historic crisis. THE GULF BETWEEN THE CORRUPT RULING ELITE AND THE GREAT MASS OF ORDINARY BRITISH CITIZENS IS TODAY GREATER THAN AT ANY TIME SINCE THE EARLY 19TH CENTURY. This means there is one great burning question in our public life... Will there BE SOME KIND OF REVOLUTION?”

In the 24 July edition he spilled the beans on the establishment thusly:

"Claims that French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been in receipt of massive cash backhanders should come as no surprise to attentive students of European politics... A safe rule of thumb is to assume that ANY TOPFLIGHT POLITICIAN FROM FRANCE, ITALY OR GERMANY IS A CRIMINAL WHO OUGHT TO BE SERVING A LONG STRETCH BEHIND BARS.

IN ITALY, GOVERNMENT HAS LONG BEEN A LARGE-SCALE GANGSTER ENTERPRISE. Senior judges openly accuse PRIME MINISTER SILVIO BERLUSCONI OF INTERVENING IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM TO ESCAPE CONVICTION in three ongoing corruption trials.

I remember once listening open-mouthed a senior member of John Major's Cabinet spelt out to me the evidence he had been shown which proved that FRANCOIS MITTERAND HAD ARRANGED THE MURDER OF AT LEAST THREE OF HIS POLITICAL OPPONENTS.

CHANCELLOR HELMUT KOHL OF GERMANY WAS AWASH WITH SLUSH FUNDS AND HIS PROSECUTION WAS HALTED ONLY WHEN A COURT DECIDED THAT IT WAS BEST TO DROP ALL CHARGES IN THE NATIONAL INTEREST.

Given this record (and there are scores of other examples) IT IS NO WONDER THAT TONY BLAIR, PETER MANDELSON AND SO MANY OF THEIR MORALLY SQUALID NEW LABOUR ASSOCIATES REMAIN SUCH ENORMOUS ENTHUSIASTS FOR THE EUROPEAN IDEAL."
