Irregularities Happen in Every Democracy!

On 2 September 2009, at a Paris conference to discuss the Afghan elections, Richard Holbrooke, Barack Obama's 'Special Representative' to Aghanistan and Pakistan, dismissed the evidence of widespread corruption thus:

"Our advocacy is for a fair process overseen by the Independent Election Commission, taking into account the decisions of the Election Complaints Commission, a process which then elects a government that is legitimate and reflects the will of the people who voted...

During that process there are going to be many claims of irregularities; THAT HAPPENS IN EVERY DEMOCRACY. We recently had a senatorial election in Minnesota which took seven months to determine the outcome, THERE WERE SO MANY CHARGES OF IRREGULARITIES... THAT HAPPENS IN DEMOCRACIES, EVEN WHEN THEY ARE NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR."
I guess Holbrooke wouldn’t have much of a problem with any 'irregularities' in a 'Banana Republic' such as ours then. In 2005, after deciding the fate of the six Asian fraudsters, the aforementioned Judge Richard Mawrey said that there was evidence of 'MASSIVE, SYSTEMATIC AND ORGANISED FRAUD' in Birmingham. He also criticised the government's insistence that the postal voting system was working and the fact that they had dismissed many and various warnings as 'scaremongering.' He added:

"Anybody who has sat through the case I have just tried and listened to EVIDENCE OF ELECTORAL FRAUD THAT WOULD DISGRACE A BANANA REPUBLIC would find this statement surprising." The postal vote and other scams
Wikipedia tells us that Holbrooke was raised as a Quaker. We are also told that his third wife, Kati Marton, was raised a Roman Catholic.

Funny how they both turn out to be Jewish, isn’t it?

"He married Kati Marton, an author and journalist in 1995... His marriage to Marton has led him to look more closely at his past. She was born into a family of Hungarian Jews but raised a Roman Catholic. In researching a book about Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat in Budapest who saved Jews during World War II, Marton traveled to her native Hungary... Marton’s family hid their Jewish identity when they came to the United States. She learned that one of her maternal grandparents had died in the Auschwitz concentration camp…

She and Holbrooke are not religious BUT HAVE EXPLORED THEIR JEWISH IDENTITY TOGETHER." Richard Holbrooke
The latest book of the lady who, just like Madeline Albright, had never 'heard of her Jewish roots,' is titled: 'The Great Escape: Nine Jews Who Fled Hitler and Changed the World.'

On 24 September 1995, The Independent on Sunday described Holbrooke thus:

"When Ronald Reagan took over the White House in 1980 he left the foreign service for Wall Street. HE JOINED LEHMAN BROTHERS, A BIG NEW YORK INVESTMENT BANK, (NOW DEFUNCT) AT A SALARY OF $900,000 A YEAR…

The drop in salary was substantial after Wall Street, but HOLBROOKE IS A MAN WHO FINDS POLITICAL POWER MORE ALLURING THAN MONEY. His second wife, Blythe Holbrooke, told Vanity Fair last year that he was ‘the ultimate Washington nightmare husband‘, A FEROCIOUSLY SINGLE-MINDED POLITICAL CLIMBER…

THE CYNICAL VIEW IN WASHINGTON IS THAT MR HOLBROOKE HAS DONE AS WELL AS HE HAS BECAUSE OF HIS HUNGER FOR POLITICAL REWARD - SPECIFICALLY TO BE APPOINTED SECRETARY OF STATE SHOULD MR CLINTON BE RE-ELECTED NEXT YEAR...

MR HOLBROOKE MAY BE A BULLY, but he is a bully with a conscience."
'Bully with a conscience?' Yeah right.

Holbrooke’s 'hunger for political reward' didn’t get him the Secretary of State job. Clinton appointed the 'never heard of her Jewish roots' lady to be second most powerful Yank instead of the thought-I-was-a-Quaker chap who didn't seem to think electoral 'irregularity' a big deal.
